One Response to “The Crucible in Rehearsal”

  1. Susan Preiss Says:

I’d like to ask a question about the rehearsal process, actually, and start a dialogue on same. I’m wondering how useful to the process it is for a director to lead actors in acting class exercises at the beginning of the rehearsal - especially when there is a very limited amount of time in which to prepare the play. As actors, shouldn’t we all have taken Acting 101 already and shouldn’t the director trust that we know what works for us and what doesn’t? Is it fair to ask actors to spend time on “associating a sound with a color” when it’s nothing that will actually help tell the story of the play?I am currently playing “Agnes” in a production of Bug in Saratoga Springs, New York; I’ve been an actor for 35 years and my director is a student at Skidmore College having directed a total of 4 plays, including Bug. You can, perhaps, see my dilemma. Please respond! Email me at sapreiss1@aol.com THANKS!!!
