Dance, Dance, Dance

I’m over the moon about the way Blues/Hip-Hop Intersection came together on July 30 at Millennium Park. Millennium Park’s Jay Pritzker Pavilion is beautiful from the audience and everything behind the scenes is top shelf as well. Before the show we had a meditative moment to express our intentions. I said let’s give people a show that will make everyone want to be kind to each other - at least for the next few days!

After the show I loved seeing friends with their teenaged grandchildren and shaking hands with people from as far away as Korea and Mexico City. Later, a few of us went to Ardiss on the south side to continue the fellowship and music and to dance, dance, dance.

The cast and all of the crew from Steppenwolf were delighted with the outcome. Thanks so much to everyone who attended and to all who made the event possible, from our friends at Kraft to the fantastic audio crew from Steppenwolf and Kobo tech. Hope you enjoy the pictures and a pre-show interview which aired on Chicago Public Radio.

I must say that it was a pleasure to have been part of this first class fusion of American music and performance. I do believe that Hip-Hop is indeed a natural evolution of the Blues, but to actually hear the two genres mixed together–live–was amazing!

Thank you Steppenwolf and thank you Sylvia Ewing for making this happen and to contiunue to give local artists (especially folks of color) the opportunity to make a further impact on our community.

I look forward to your next event. Thank you!

As a member of the younger generation at this multi-generational event, I would like to give kudos to Sylvia Ewing and Steppenwolf for organizing such a great performance. It was such a phenomenal collaboration between styles, artists and ages, I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the legacy and continuing relevance of blues and hip hop. I can’t wait to see more performances like this one!
